New Students
The first lesson is free to allow an opportunity for getting to know one another, go over goals, and set expectations. There are several learning paths. Students are placed into the most appropriate set of Faber Piano Adventure books based on their needed pace.

If any songs on piano are known, even without formal training, the first lesson is a great opportunity to show off skills. (Think “Heart & Soul”, “Chopsticks”, or even something learned from a TikTok or YouTube video.) If there is time, students can also expect to learn basic information on how pianos work or how to sit properly. Typically, no music is assigned as homework on the first lesson.

Experienced Students
Everyone has different reasons for needing a new teacher. The first lesson is free to allow an opportunity for goal discussion, known preferences, and showing off the current skill level. Be prepared to play something.

If already working in a book set that has been beneficial, there is no reason to change pace unless there are major issues. Meeting students where they’re at is key. If new books are necessary/desired, determining a comfortable book level will happen.

There will be a lot of questions or requests for demonstrations to test current knowledge. This is to create the best game plan for future lessons. There is no need to study before the first lesson.

Recitals
No recitals are hosted.

Testing
Students under 18 in traditional levels of Faber Piano Adventures are required to go through Piano Adventure Exams upon graduation of their book level.

This testing is paid for by FCPS, not parents, and consists of one theory exam and three performance exams which take place at Fort Collins Piano Studio. These exams offer exceptional feedback from coaches that help Veronica improve as a teacher by giving a secondary point of view on how her students play.

More information on the specifics of these exams will be provided in person.
